Champagne Bowler

With Passover this weekend and Easter next weekend, it seems like the perfect time to break out the spring cocktails. What’s a spring cocktail? Drinks with bubbles and/or fruit. I love a good spring or summer drink. As the weather warms up, now is the time to imbibe those cocktails that are on the lighter side. Drinks like G&T’s, Aperol Spritzes and Mojitos are just a few of my favorites. And while those are delicious, occasionally I’ll have a glass of rosé or a Champagne Cocktail.

What’s great about the Aperol Spritzes and champagne cocktails are they’re light and low ABV. Low ABV (Alcohol by Volume) cocktails are  perfect for weekend picnics or Sunday brunches. I mean, who out there doesn’t love a good bottomless mimosa on a Sunday? These are the tipples that were made for day drinking. They taste good and will leave you feeling light and happy rather than sick and drunk.

I thought I knew of (and posted) all the classic champagne or spritz cocktails. But thanks to The Spruce Eats, I recently discovered another drink from the 30’s that’s not only delicious, it’s the perfect way to usher in spring: it uses strawberries!

Now, I know strawberries are available year round in the grocery stores, but it’s not until I see them at the farmer’s market that spring is officially here. Once they’re at the farmers markets, I know all other spring fruits like cherries, apricots and peaches are close behind. Strawberries, tulips and Gerber Daisies just shout spring to me. They’re brightly colored, full of flavor and super happy. No more gloomy, rainy days. No more hot whiskey drinks or heavy desserts. Now it’s all about blue skies and sunshine, bubbly drinks and fruity desserts. Or better yet, a bubbly, fruity cocktail like this Champagne Bowler.
