About

I’ve been cooking since I could hold a wooden spoon and help my mom lick the bowl.  I’ve always loved cooking, whether it was baking something sweet or simmering something savory.  And you can absolutely be good at both.  While I love the perfect fudgy brownie, there’s is absolutely nothing better than a hot bowl of chili with shredded cheddar cheese on a cold, rainy night.

While I often cook for myself, I love to cook for others. This hobby started in elementary school, continued through college, into the dating world and finally marriage.  Thankfully the man I wed, was as much into entertaining as I was. We have people over all the time whether it be a casual dinner with a few friends or a big blowout for holidays.  And the best thing about a party, it’s a chance to experiment.  Although the dish I create isn’t always a success, I always have fun making it. I’ve also learned some important lessons, like if you’re going to host Thanksgiving for both families, maybe you want to do a test run first.

And now five years into wedded bliss and numerous years into cooking and entertaining, I’m a mom; which means not only am I cooking for adults, I’m now cooking for an infant as well.

I started this blog to share those experiences, the recipes and advice for all those out there that have always wanted to host a party but didn’t know how or were too afraid to try. (My secret: potlucks are a very good thing.) Just because you’re new to entertaining or new to parenting or both, doesn’t mean you can’t create something delicious.

What’s with the title? Those that know me, know I’m a huge fan of the 40′s and 50′s.  And the 50′s were big on kitch. Although I’ll rarely create a dish from that time, I do have a vintage apron that I wear to cook and that’s how I came up with the name.

So, please look around, try a dish or two and most of all, whether you create a masterpiece or a mess, have fun.  I always do.
