It’s finally been cold here in the South Bay. I mean, like 40’s cold. Now, I know that may not seem cold in other parts of the country, but here in Southern California, that’s downright frigid. So, when it’s that cold I look for hot, comforting foods; things like chili or casseroles or hearty, thick… Continue reading Capitol Hill Bean Soup

Curried Chicken with Raisins
I love to cook. It doesn’t matter if I find recipes online, in a cookbook, in a class or make them up myself. As long as there are ingredients and a stove or oven, I’m happy. While coming up with a recipe all by myself is gratifying, following someone else’s direction to a delicious finished… Continue reading Curried Chicken with Raisins
Roasted Chicken with Sweet Potatoes and Oranges
We’re right in the middle of citrus season. This is one of my favorite times of year. Sure, I love the spring and summer when there’s an abundance of berries and stone fruits, but when those sweet berries and peaches aren’t available, oranges and lemons are a wonderful alternative. While citrus aren’t as sweet as… Continue reading Roasted Chicken with Sweet Potatoes and Oranges
Chicken with Avocado Pomegranate Salsa
Monday through Friday, I’m pretty busy. I have to get the kids to school, attend various food events, get my kids to their after-school activities and get dinner on the table by six. So, when I’m that busy I look for a dinner that’s not only a cinch to throw together but is delicious, too.… Continue reading Chicken with Avocado Pomegranate Salsa
Asian Short Ribs in the Slow Cooker
The holidays mean plenty of chocolate, heavy cream and rich foods. Between the family dinners and holiday parties there’s just no escaping those decadent desserts, sparkling cocktails and rich entreés. But then we flip the page on another year and suddenly it’s all about health. The chocolate goes back up on the shelf, those huge… Continue reading Asian Short Ribs in the Slow Cooker
Paprika Pork Chops and Hearts of Palm Salad
One of the benefits of being a food blogger is that sometimes companies send me products with which to create recipes. Sometimes the products are good and sometimes they’re not so good. When the products aren’t good, I thank the company and move on. But when they are good, I can’t wait to create a… Continue reading Paprika Pork Chops and Hearts of Palm Salad
Carrot Orzotto
It’s October and here in the South Bay that means cool breezes and chilly temperatures. I’ve even started wearing long pants and pulled out the occasional sweater. When that happens, it’s time to start rethinking dinner options; and some of my favorites are hearty stews and rich pastas. One of my favorite pasta dinners is… Continue reading Carrot Orzotto
Pan-Seared Pork Chops with Figs
We’re right in the middle of fig season and if there’s one thing I love it’s fresh figs. I’ll eat them straight or roasted or even cooked down into a thick relish. I’ve even made a few desserts with them. But one thing I’ve never done is cooked them with a protein. Well, I changed that a few weeks ago and I’m so happy I did. These pork chops are delicious and perfect for this time of year.
Hatch Chile Burger
It’s Hatch Chile season again and I couldn’t be happier. While the season started about three weeks ago, there are still a couple weeks left to enjoy fresh Hatch chiles, which means you still have plenty of time to use them in everything from hummus to salsa to ice cubes. Since it’s Labor Day weekend… Continue reading Hatch Chile Burger
Grilled Lamb Chops and Herb Salad
I’ve been doing a lot of grilling lately. I just love cooking outside over an open flame when it’s warm, and since I live by the ocean, feeling that cool ocean breeze while grilling… well nothing makes me happier. So, I’m out there as often as I can be. While I love grilling vegetables and… Continue reading Grilled Lamb Chops and Herb Salad
Korean Barbecued Chicken Lettuce Cups
When I grew up, my family and I had Chinese take out on a regular basis. I always loved the fried rice, dumplings and egg rolls. They were delicious and I always looked forward to those nights when we ordered out. Then in college, I had two Asian roommates. One was Korean and the other… Continue reading Korean Barbecued Chicken Lettuce Cups
