Boston Cooler

I know all I’ve been talking about the past few weeks has been the Super Bowl, but in blogger-land that’s a very important time. It’s like Christmas or Halloween or the entire month of November. See, it’s during these months that bloggers everywhere focus on specific types of food. During the month of January and early February most bloggers focus on food for the big game which is why you’ve been seeing so many appetizer and drink recipes from me as of late. See, the Super Bowl is Sunday and I want to make sure you know what you’re going to serve, which is why I have just one more cocktail to share with you before I move on to the holiday of love.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that the Los Angeles Rams are playing the New England Patriots in Sunday’s game. So I decided to make two cocktails: last week I made the Los Angeles Cocktail, and this week I’m making a Boston Cooler.

These two cocktails are as different as the cities they’re named after. Where last week’s cocktail uses bourbon, this week’s uses rum. The LA Cocktail is served up in a cocktail glass while the Cooler is served over ice in a Collins glass. But the biggest difference between the two drinks are one has an egg and the other doesn’t. While the two drinks are as different as the two teams facing each other this weekend, they’re both delicious and right out of the past.

That’s right, I didn’t make up these drinks just for the game, I actually found them in my 1935 Old Mr. Boston Bartender’s Guide.  But just because they’re old doesn’t mean they’re bad. I mean, some of my favorite drinks are from 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. I do have a confession to make though. While I like both drinks, I prefer that Los Angeles Cocktail. I think it’s because I like bourbon. But just because I may be sipping an L.A. Cocktail on Sunday doesn’t mean, I’m switching sides. Oh, I’ll still be rooting for the Pats, believe me. I’ll just make sure I’ve got a cocktail in my hand while I do it. Won’t you join me?
